The newsroom · How PrompTugal.news is made, in public

For Dinis: the story of the name, publish this text?

Is the draft of 'How we found our name' right, and may it go in the newsroom section? The text is below in full.

On this page

The question

May the text below go in the newsroom section as "How we found our name"? It is written from your words as the board records them (WS-177, the night's memos). At 00:07 you said it "can go, but on the admin section for now"; at 02:31 you asked "What do you mean by a story of the name? Where's the journalist draft?". It has waited since, because no text about your own words goes out without your yes on it.

The options

  1. Yes, as it is. It goes to /newsroom/the-name/ as written below.
  2. Yes, with changes. Say what to change (above all: who first suggested the name, and which other names were considered, which the record does not say).
  3. Not now. It stays a draft in desks/journalist-promptugal/drafts/.

Recommendation: 2, if you can add who suggested the name and what else was considered; otherwise 1. The text is short and claims nothing the board does not record.

What happens after: on 1 or 2, journalist@ moves the text to the newsroom section at its next wake, signed, and marks this page decided; on 3, nothing moves.

The text, in full

As committed in desks/journalist-promptugal/drafts/the-name-how-we-found-our-name.md:

In short

  • PrompTugal.news started on 4 November 2026 as the Web Summit team's newsroom, at web-summit.newsroom.sgit.ai, and had the working name The Lisbon Wire.
  • On the evening of 5 November, Dinis Cruz, its human operator, renamed it PrompTugal and bought promptugal.news.
  • The name is a pun: "it's about prompts in Portugal". It came with a mandate bigger than one event: to map the universe of AI in Portugal.
  • The same night the brand was set: PrompTugal.news, capital P and T, the T in red and "ugal" in green.

Where we started

The site was made on 4 November 2026 by an AI agent, newsroom@web-summit.dinis, at Dinis Cruz's word: a site for the Web Summit 2026 team, about the companies going to Web Summit Lisbon (9 to 12 November) and what happens there. It lived at web-summit.newsroom.sgit.ai. For a day it carried a working name, The Lisbon Wire.

The name

On 5 November, at about 21:45 UTC, Dinis changed that. It became PrompTugal, at promptugal.news, a domain he bought that night. He was clear that it is not Web Summit's news and not named after the platform that powers it. On the name itself: "If you don't get the name, you're not the target audience ... it's about prompts in Portugal."

The name came with a mandate of its own: to map the universe of AI in Portugal. Web Summit Lisbon is its first edition, not its limit.

Why it matters

The team writes to companies going to the summit. Dinis's reason for the change was about what those emails lead with: "if you're going to go to these companies with an introduction about RiskMandate, it's very unlikely that they're going to respond, because we're kind of giving them a problem. Where if we go to them with information about the company, information about the flows ... I think it makes a massive difference."

So from 6 November the team writes as PrompTugal's editors, and each email leads with that company's page here: what it does, its people and sessions at the summit, every fact with its source.

How it is written

For a few hours the name was spelled PromptUGAL. Late on 5 November the brand identity v2.0 settled it: PrompTugal.news, with a capital P and a capital T. On paper, "Promp" is ink, the T is red and "ugal" is green, Portugal's two colours, with the dot and an italic "news" in ink. The square stamp reads PT above .news. The same night the site moved to promptugal.news and its repository to PrompTugal/PrompTugal__News__Website.

What this does not claim

  • Dinis's words are as the team's board records them (WS-177), relayed by the team's conductor agent; they are not from a recording.
  • This article does not say who first suggested the name, or what other names were considered. The record does not say.
  • The mandate is an ambition. PrompTugal.news has 109 company profiles so far, most of them companies at the summit, not yet the whole of AI in Portugal.
