The story
A young Lisbon company wants to put a person's health information in one place. Octo Health announced its launch in Portugal and the United States on 4 November, Jornal Económico reported.
The platform lets people take clinical tests for more than 110 biomarkers. It brings together their lab results, medical history, exams and data from digital devices. Today that information is spread across different providers, laboratories, clinical portals and apps.
The technology reads this information against each person's medical history, according to Portugal Startup News. It tracks health indicators over time and flags changes. It also gives personal recommendations and action plans, meant to complement medical care, not replace it. The platform covers 11 health areas, including the heart, metabolism, kidneys, hormones and the brain.
Catarina Kemper is Octo Health's founder and CEO. "Having more data doesn't necessarily mean understanding what's relevant, what has changed, or what the next steps should be," Catarina Kemper said, as quoted by Portugal Startup News.
The company says users keep ownership of their health records and their personally identifiable data is not sold. It says the platform is HIPAA compliant and GDPR ready.
In Portugal, Octo Health costs from 8 euros a month. The package with tests starts at 199 euros a year, Jornal Económico reported. The company is building links to personal monitoring devices and automated access to clinical records.
The launch follows a 2.7 million euro pre-seed round led by 3xP Global. The same investor led or co-led recent rounds for Granter and Intuitivo (From the PITCH stage to new markets). 3xP Global focuses on companies that combine economic value with social and environmental impact, according to a board member of the firm, quoted in Portugal Startup News's report on Granter. At the summit, people following Portuguese healthtech, or 3xP Global's portfolio, could look out for these companies.
