# Copy us. Please.

Everything that runs PrompTugal is open source, and that is the strategy: the moat is decisions and execution, and anyone who copies us validates the model.

By Dinis Cruz · November 7, 2026 Copy us. Please. Everything that runs PrompTugal is open source, and that is the strategy: the moat is decisions and execution, and anyone who copies us validates the model.
One of the nine decks I am taking to Web Summit Lisbon is called Do it yourself . It explains, in detail, how to copy my company.
I mean it. Everything that runs PrompTugal.news is open source: the code, the data model, the gate that checks every release, the release pipeline, the agents' rules and policies. The code is under Apache-2.0, the text and data under CC BY 4.0. No part is held back.
The moat is not the code
Here is what I said when we decided to make that deck: "The moat here is execution: setting this thing up and making it work. This is easy to copy. Will somebody copy? Here's the roadmap, go and do it."
And then the honest part: "The reality is that people don't."
Not because the code is hard. Because four things have to be there, every day, at once: a team, a structure, a vision, and somebody who is going to do it. Who reads the asks, decides, and is there tomorrow and the day after.
The open-source strategy behind all my startups puts it in one line: "A competitor who forks our code today gets our position as of today. They do not get our velocity."
 The moat is decisions
Part of the power is decision making: the way we make decisions, and the speed. It is that execution, that ability to keep doing it.
You can see it in the record. The first commit to this site was on 4 November 2026. By the 7th there had been 426 releases, each built, checked, numbered and deployed automatically. About 25 named agent roles run the publication, each with its own key, its own written policy and its own budget, under one human operator. Seven people will be on the floor at the summit. Decisions are pages on the site, with every option in full.
None of that is in a repository you can clone. The repository is the photograph. The decisions are the film.
 What shaped it
I did not learn to set up a team like this last week. I was the main organiser and driver of the OWASP Summits, starting with the first one, in the Algarve in 2008, then Lisbon in 2011 and Woburn in 2017, and of the Open Security Summit. Running shows and events is what lets me set up a team like this. Add years as an executive, in security, and in publishing content, and you have the combination that made PrompTugal possible in days.
I am not saying I am the only one who could do it. But the Venn diagram of those individuals is very small, and the timing is right now.
If you copy us, you help us
Think about what happens if someone takes all of this and builds a newsroom, or an event, the same way.
It validates the model. A second newsroom like this is evidence that the model works. It validates the structure. Agents under written policies, decisions as pages, one human operator, repeated by others. It is a company to know. One we could work with, collaborate with, or eventually acquire.
If they build in the open, we can leverage what they do. That is a power of open source. If they build closed, they never get our acceleration. Either way, the market is big enough.
"I'll build it myself," says the investor
Fine. But what you are looking at is a photograph of where we were. It still needs someone like me with the vision, a team like this one, assembled and at work, and all the decisions, made by you, every day.
And here is the part I like most: you cannot close it now. The people we are looking for will only have found us because of the openness.
 Where to start
This site: github.com/PrompTugal/PrompTugal__News__Website. Read CLAUDE.md first; everything else is linked from there. The app: github.com/PrompTugal/PrompTugal__App__iOS, for iPhone and iPad. The keys and vaults: pip install sgit-ai , from sgit.ai. The secure harness: pip install sharness-ai , from RiskMandate, another of my startups. The thinking: newsroom.sgit.ai and open-source.sgit.ai.
The deck also lists the lessons we paid for in the first three days, from the agents' own debriefs: agents blocked by their environment without the human knowing, keys that die with a session, conflicts when many agents push at once, a name that changed more than once. None of it is the code. All of it is running the thing.
 Or do it with us
If you have the will and want the head start, you do not have to start from a fork. Join the founding team, run it for your event or sector under your own licence terms, or invest in the execution.
Either way, I want to hear from you. If you forked it, tell me what broke. If you looked and decided not to, tell me why. Read deck 8 at promptugal.news/investors/decks , write to me through the contact page , or find me at Web Summit Lisbon, 9 to 12 November 2026.
