In short
- The University of Lisbon (ULisboa) has a stand in Pavilion 1 from 10 to 12 November, its second Web Summit in a row, with projects from its faculties and its incubator.
- Técnico, ULisboa's engineering school, has its own stand in Pavilion 2 (E272), with robots, a virtual reality dive and six spin-offs: Acubic, Keel, Opsivision.ai, RTBEAMTECH, RipeNew and Testwaves.
- On 10 November ULisboa hosts the second UniVerse: Academia Empreendedora, with a pitch competition for startups from nine Portuguese universities.
- ULisboa says it ranked first in Startup Portugal's 2025 ranking of entrepreneurial universities, and that four of Portugal's six unicorns came from its ecosystem.
The story
Lisbon's university comes to Web Summit with two stands and a day of its own.
The University of Lisbon is at Web Summit for the second year running, in Pavilion 1 from 10 to 12 November. Its stand shows entrepreneurial projects from its Faculties of Architecture, Fine Arts, Sciences, Arts and Humanities, and Psychology, its School of Agriculture and the ULisboa Incubator, the university says.
Técnico, the university's engineering school, has its own stand: Pavilion 2, E272. For three days it shows what its community has built. There are robots: Lola, from the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR), and a Unitree quadruped and a Unitree G1 humanoid from the Técnico Venture Lab. Echo of the Abyss, from the Interactive Technologies Institute (ITI-LARSyS), is a deep scuba dive in virtual reality. Students from the electronics society N3E build a rover on the stand.
Técnico also brings six spin-offs from the school: Acubic, Keel, Opsivision.ai, RTBEAMTECH, RipeNew and Testwaves. Fundação Santander supports Técnico's participation, the school says.
On stage, Arlindo Oliveira, a professor at Técnico and president of the research institute INESC, joins a Future of Work Summit panel on what AI means for university teaching. It is called "The Transformation of Post-Secondary Education in the AI Era", Técnico says.
The pitch day is 10 November. ULisboa hosts the second UniVerse: Academia Empreendedora at the Portugal Pavilion Congress Centre, with nine Portuguese higher education institutions: the University of Lisbon, NOVA University Lisbon and the Universities of Aveiro, Coimbra, Évora, Madeira, Minho, Beira Interior and Porto. There is a pitch competition for the universities' startups, a demo and exhibition area, networking, a performance by the ZABRA collective and a media partnership with The Next Big Idea. One more Técnico startup, not yet chosen when Técnico wrote, will take part.
ULisboa also brings its record. It says it took first place in Portugal's 2025 Ranking of Entrepreneurial Universities, awarded by Startup Portugal. Citing Dealroom, it says it is the only Portuguese higher education institution with more than 1,000 alumni who have founded startups, with a combined enterprise value of over 30 billion euros across 36 countries. It counts four of Portugal's six unicorns as coming from its ecosystem: OutSystems, TEKEVER, Talkdesk and Anchorage Digital.
A suggestion: investors in robotics and deep tech could start at Técnico's stand E272; companies looking for graduates or university partners could go to UniVerse on 10 November.
What this does not claim
- The rankings and figures are ULisboa's own. The first place, the Dealroom figures (1,000 alumni founders, over 30 billion euros, 36 countries, 32nd in Europe in Dealroom's European Spinouts Report) and the four unicorns come from ULisboa's announcement. PrompTugal.news has not read Startup Portugal's ranking or Dealroom's reports and has not checked them.
- Which startups pitch at UniVerse is not known. Neither source lists them. Técnico's entrant had not been chosen when it published on 29 October.
- The panel's day and time are not given in Técnico's announcement, and PrompTugal.news has not found them on Web Summit's schedule.
- The quadruped's model is given by Técnico as "Unitree G02"; PrompTugal.news has not confirmed it.
- Nothing is said about the spin-offs' products. The sources name the six startups and nothing more; their own sites were not read for this draft.
- "The first day of the event". Técnico places UniVerse on the summit's first day; ULisboa gives the date as 10 November. Web Summit runs from 9 to 12 November, and both stands open on 10 November.
- No link is claimed between any of these startups and any other company at the summit.
